Big Cats

Big Cats

I've always loved big cats. They are such beautiful majestic creatures.

Though I've always drawn and painted I only started my art journey seriously, properly on January 4th 2021. It was on that date that I resigned from my day job due to mental health issues. I did love my day job but I knew that I was not well enough to return after shielding for almost a year. So the day that I resigned was my first day as a professional artist.

Hopefully these images will show my journey from 2021 to now May 2024. Hopefully they show how I have learned to apply techniques to make my drawings more realistic. The biggest change for me was the move from graphite to coloured pencils. It was like learning a whole new way of drawing. Im so pleased that I did make the change. I do still occasionally use graphite if that's what my clients want but my preferred medium now is definitely coloured pencils. Prismacolor to be precise.

I can see a shift in the addition more detail, spending more time on each piece. There is still room for improvement and I do work on making my art better every day. In turn my art is making me better. I'm recovering. I have a way to go but I'm miles better mentally than I was 2 to 4 years ago.

My advice to anyone who wants to take up art has always been draw what you see. The more you look, the more you will see. Every hair, every line, every pore. Stick at it. Take your time and you will improve!
